Odds and ends

  • A restatement of EU policy toward Cuba – calling for “self-determination through [advances in] democracy, rule of law and fundamental freedoms,” expanded EU-Cuba exchanges in many fields, and “more active dialogue” with Washington about Cuba – is going nowhere, EU Observer reports. And some Euro-parliamentarians are pushing for a return to the 2003 diplomatic sanctions.

  1. Forgive me, but while we're talking banned books, I thought I'd post this report on Cuban libraries from the American Library Association. They found no evidence of banned books, just lack of resources. Neither did they think "independent libraries" were independent or anything resembling a libraries.
