A new poll from Bendixen and Associates shows tight races in two Miami Congressional districts: Rep. Lincoln Diaz-Balart leads challenger Raul Martinez by a 41-37 margin, and Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart leads challenger Joe Garcia 44-39. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen is comfortably ahead of challenger Annette Taddeo, 58-31. McClatchy report here.
The DNC is committing a strategic error in South Florida that will harm their presidential nominee. By creating competitive races in those SF districts, they're going to increase the Cuban-American turnout and thus generate lots of split ticket voters, and also incite the old Republican stalwarts. The DNC is fantasizing if they think Raul Martinez's supporters are going to vote for Obama.
ReplyDeleteNo need to worry, neither Raul Martinez nor Joe Garcia are going anywhere near the House of Reprensentatives. They might visit the Capitol as tourists but they will not work there. And Obama will never win Florida. American citizens of Cuban origin will make sure he loses in Florida.
ReplyDeleteRaul Martinez is done. His name recognition is as high as Lincoln's and if he is down now it unlikely that his numbers will inch up. He's too polarizing a figure.
ReplyDeleteJoe Garcia has a better chance. The district is easier and he is not as polarizing.
Once again the best candidate would have been Alex Penelas or Manny Diaz - almost guaranteed victories. They would peel off enough Cubans while racking up everyone else.
Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart is facist and evil.. Ileana worse..
ReplyDeleteWe have a huge amount of people out there registering voters and there is a huge percentage of new voters who are voting for Obama.
ReplyDeleteHe has the youth vote. He has a good amount of Republicans who are just plain sick of what the Republicans have done in this country. The economy sticks, health care is a joke and everyone wants out of Iraq. The Republican party had control of everything in D.C. and they did everything wrong. Now it is time to let the other party see what they can do. Give the Republicans a break, let them regroup and come up with some better candidates. They need a rest and will be a better party as a result.
Raul Martinez and Joe Garcia should be given a chance to see what they can do. The Diaz-Balart brothers did nothing but vote with Bush and that has been a disaster. Cuba is still run by the Castro monsters and the Diaz-Balarts have done nothing to get them out, they have failed and they should be retired.
