Secretary Gutierrez strikes again

From Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez, speaking to reporters in Miami yesterday:

“What we are hearing from Cubans in Cuba is they don't need money because there's nothing to buy.”

I guess he’s unaware of appeals that dissidents such as Martha Beatriz Roque and Oswaldo Paya, both representing their organizations, made to President Bush in the wake of the hurricanes. Or the appeal that Roque made in May to President Bush in a videoconference from Havana, in which Gutierrez participated.

  1. That's one dumb ass comment. I'd like to meet these Cubans that say "don't bother sending me any cash, can't use it"

  2. What a shameles guy this Gutierrez is! The CANF is asking for a new license because people in Cuba need money. Thousands of Cubans have sent their relatives and friends thousands of dollars in the past two weeks. I now of no Cuban who says 'no, don't send money". On the contrary. Even yesterday Martha Beatriz and Espinosa Chepe again asked Pres. Bush to lift the restrictions on money and travel. Who's Gutierrez trying to kid? Shame on him!

  6. perfect example of American policy in work against Cuba -- the arrogance is so obvious. every conceivable attempt to heap scorn or ridicule on cuba, even in time of crisis. how can anyone have a shred of respect for american policy towards cuba?

  7. Your cheap anti-American sentiment is boring. What will be interesting is what the Cuban people themselves say about the United States when the regime is mercifully swept into the dustbin of history. I'll bet they'll be angry at us...for not doing enough to get rid of the regime that has tormented them for fifty years.

  8. oh yeah, the cuban people love the way the americans have treated them, economic embargo, war of terror, biological war, military invasion, protecting terrorists in miami, etc etc. oh yes uncle sam, thank you so much. it is not up to the US to get rid of the regime, you moron, and certainly not up to the US to continue to punish and torment the cubans. and then you think the cubans will thank the US afterwards. it is stunning how mis-informed you are. really, what color is the sky in your world?

  9. yeah, just like the people of Eastern Europe hate us for our Cold War policies. What Kool-Aid drinkers like you can never process through your warped minds is separating the Cuban people from the regime. talk about separate universes...

  10. Please explain to us all how US policies in eastern Europe are the same as US policies against Cuba. Did the US have an embargo against the Soviets at the height of the Cold War. No. Did the US wage a terrorist war against the people of Eastern Europe? NO. Did the Us invade Eastern Europe or Soviet Union? No. You really have no clue if you are trying to equate the two policies.
American policy is aimed at harming the Cuban people, not the government. ANd those policies help maintain the support the Cuban people give to their govt. That's something you just can never accept -- there is still a majority of cubans who support the revolution.

So give it your best shot; explain how US policies against the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe during the cold war -- policies of engagement and not directed to harm the people of Eastern Europe -- are the same as the policies against Cuba, designed to harm the Cuban people and a refusal to engaged. I'm guessing green is the color of the sky in your world.

And here's the elephant in the room that no one ever wants to acknowledge; how does waging a terrorist war against the people of cuba; killing thousands, equate with helping the people of cuba?

  11. the only one waging a terrorist war against the Cuban people is the Castro regime.

perfect answer, one that demonstrates how little you know of the reality. explain how castro is waging terrorist war against his own people. the bombs, the killings the torture of teachers etc have all been done by Cuban-Americans living in the US. Instead of a glib no sense answer try and deal with reality.

are you saying there's been no terrorist war against Cuba? Or are you simply discounting the deaths and injuries and how the cuban government has been forced to deal with it? The question wasn't about Fidels treatment of his people, it was about the thousands killed from this terrorist war. Please answer direct to that, or do you agree with the acts of terrorism against Cuba originating from the United States?
