Odds and ends

  • At the Havana Note, Tomas Bilbao argues that U.S. policies are partly to blame for the fact that Cuba chose Venezuela rather than U.S. companies as the partner in its undersea fiber optic cable project. And he’s not a big fan of Congressional efforts to push Spain’s Repsol out of the Cuba oil business.

  • Cuban Colada notes the Cuban foreign minister’s statements in Bolivia supporting that country’s access to the sea.

  • The Herald’s Juan Tamayo looks at a Facebook group created by Cubans outside Cuba calling on those in Cuba to rise up and bring down the government while they, presumably, will stay right where they are and follow the action. One commenter says, “Egyptians have less tolerance than Cubans. They got tired of the dictator in 30 years!”

  • No comment: “Colombian singer Juanes has canceled his mid-April concert at AmericanAirlines Arena in Miami because it fell on the same week as the 50th anniversary of the Bay of Pigs Invasion.” (From Tuesday’s Herald, emphasis added.)
