Nixon and Kennedy debating Cuba

Thanks to a reader for sending this five-minute (!) discussion of Cuba from the 1960 presidential candidates’ debate.

  1. A few thoughts on this. First, both candidates were lying. I recently read somewhere that Kennedy had been secretly briefed on the Bay of Pigs planning by Allen Dulles, then director of the CIA. Apparently the CIA did not favor Nixon.

So Kennedy proceeded to attack Nixon for doing nothing, knowing that Nixon could not respond adequately, as divulging the Bay of Pigs planning would have been a violation of national security.
