Absolutely Disgusting - F. Calzon's comments. My sister in law here in US from Cuba about 2 years ago was indeed offended by such comments. Of course almost 100 percent of Cubans in Habana would stick the big middle finger up at Calzon for his ignorance, arrogance and paternalism.
Calzon writes,
"Yet the reality is that much of what has happened in Cuba over the last 50 years cannot be explained, except as the whim of a man whose only goal is to be in control of everything Cuban. Castro has a lot in common with Stalin.."
ARE YOU KIDDING, WHAT KIND OF KINDERGARDEN ANALYSIS IS THAT. WHAT HAS HAPPENED, "CAN'T BE EXPLAINED" .. SOUNDS LIKE MY 3 YEAR OLD NEICE. AND PEOPLE LISTEN TO THIS INGORANT.
Regarding Diaz-Balart, I think he should listen to the dissident groups in Cuba more often b/c most of the groups (in cuba) have expressed strong support for the reanudacion of dialouge between both countries.
I guess Diaz-Balart would rather express his talking points to Miami, rather than taking into account the feelings of grass roots organizations on the ground in Cuba. How convenient.
Calzon's comments are typical and often heard here in Miami by hard-liners.
To blame one psychological effect for the actions of an entire population over many years is absurd, ridiculous, and contemptuous.
In my opinion, it highlights the profound internalization of many years of propaganda against the Cuban government and its people, which in turn has negative effects in the debate for a future free Cuba.
Calzon and others, with such arguments of reductionism and folk psychology, has set back a possible free Cuba for many years.
