Jovellanos is also called by Bemba because of the black population of this city.
I am from Jovellanos/Bemba. I can attest to this nickname even though it might seem to have negative racial overtones because bemba means "lip" in Latin American Spanish; in reference to noticeably thicker lips in the African populations. This is not the case, that is has negative overtones, actually it used as an affectionate nickname to a town where both black and white live together in harmony.
