The Cuba-Brazil women's volleyball match was a doozy. It sounded like Fidel almost had a heart attack...

Don't despair fantomas. As Lula said: "It's no shame for someone to lose a competition with a Cuban athlete, because Cuba has a 50-year tradition in sports competitions."

The game is being replayed on ESPN2 (in Spanish) - but at least it's finally some Pan-Am airing on American cable! Cuba are the absolute masters of small ball - bunts, pitching, defense. 10 baseball golds in a row.

Fantomas, with your "men vs boys" (professional vs amatuer) remark it appears you already forgot about the World Basement Classic. Puljos and Ortiz were just as stymied by Palma and Lazo.

no way, the pro athletes I sopke with in Puerto Rico told me they had no incentive to win , they were merely calentando for the incoming pro season..Most of then were still out of shape in March

Still were not able to beat a second rated Japanese pro team..go figure

"...no incentive to win." if any US pro athelete indeed said this about playing for one's country, it is as much an indictment of capitalist sport as I've ever heard.

The Japanese play the same kind of ball as Cuba. Matsuzaka shut em out. What can ya say... But as far as pro player complaining about not being in shape and having no incentive, I would say that is not very "professioinal." To think a player should have more incentive to play for a team that may dump them tomorrow, vs playing for their country is totally backwards. Cuba's system of playing for your home region is a beautiful thing...

Lets have more games like this one with Brazil on a weekly basis. Maybe he will have the heart attack we are all waiting for finally.
