Odds and ends

  • The University of Miami will release tomorrow an exit poll of Cuban American voters from the 2008 election; its press release is titled, “Majority of Cuban-Americans Support U.S. Embargo.” Partial results have been released already; the Sun-Sentinel covers them here, and Generation Miami writes about them here.

  • Treasury issues additional guidance (pdf) on the new rules governing Cuban American family visits.

Regarding the poll, yep, not surprising, ignorance, resentment and anger do carry in one's heart for long time.

I just wish they didn't make real cubans suffer, b/c make no mistake, real common cubans suffer in part due to embargo (in combination with totalitarian regime)....but we make a real bad situation, real real bad .

in any case: who cares what 'cuban'-americans think re the embargo? they represent 0.5% of US population. US government is held by the constitution to serve the interests of the majority, hence they should never have allowed foreign policy to be made by a handful of rich old 'cuban'-americans.
if those guys don't want to travel to cuba, stay home, but don't mess with the freedom of the citizens of the freest country of the planet to go where they damn well please.
and if you don't want to trade with cuba, then don't, but leave the rest of us alone.
high time to call this mafias bluff.
