In his blog, Rui Ferreira of El Nuevo Herald reports rumors that Cuban and
El Nuevo has consistently led the media coverage of this case, so I would not discount information reaching that newsroom. “I understand that a group of FBI investigators has already traveled to the Cuban capital,” Ferreira writes, to gather information on the 1997 hotel bombings in which Posada, quoted in The New York Times in 1998, admitted involvement. Ferreira also hints at a U.S.-Italy angle, due to their common NATO membership and the fact that an Italian tourist died in one of those bombings.
Recall this sentence at the end of the Justice Department's January 11 press release on Posada's immigration fraud indictment: "The federal investigation of Posada continues."
