Extradite Posada?

A Reuters report on a UN discussion of the Luis Posada Carriles case, initiated by Cuba and Venezuela, contains this nugget:

“U.S. Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad … said the immigration judge who originally considered Posada Carriles's case had barred his deportation to Cuba or Venezuela. But he said Washington would be prepared to send him to another country with terrorism-related charges against him.”

Italy, perhaps?

I dont understand why the father of the Italian tourist did not open a case against Posada in Italy. Several sources inside the Federal government told me that the Justice Department was waiting that. Propaganda, perhaps? Is Posada more usefull in the street then behind bars? I'm starting to think so.

Why should the family of the Italian who was killed by a bomb in Havana conform to the preferred plans of the Bush Administration in handling this 'hot potato?' They know who is reposnible for the murder. Posada has admitted his guilt in the Havana bombing to Bardach.

Everything I've read tells me the family wants true justice for Posada Carriles. They know he is a long-time terrorist who is living free in Miami now, after blowing up a plane of innocents. This is outrageous and they hold the US responsible. They are not going to now do their part so that he evades justice for this crime, and many others, just so the US culpability escapes as well. Why should they? There is a legal request to extradite Posada to the place where his most heinous crime was hatched. The US can not refuse. The torture issue is BS, a cynical smokescreen. There has not been systemic torture in Venezuela since Posada himself was head of DISIP.
